Clear Water Sanctuary
Decker Creek, A Spring Fed, Salmon Bearing Stream and Our Bridge
We are a newly created Permaculture cooperative homestead on the southerly slope of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. Using Permaculture ethics, principles and practices, as well as lots of cooperation, our goal is to create a thriving, long lived village (starting with one cooperative farm!) complete with all the systems necessary to feed, house, and keep healthy the families who live there. We value simplicity and seek solutions that are light footprint and sustainable, and that contribute to our quality of life and to the health of the environment and local community.
We aspire to a simple and happy agrarian life, in balance with all around us.
We practice "earthskills", or earth-based culture as much as possible. Our interests include permaculture, natural building, forest gardening, primitive pottery, herbal medicine, nature crafts, and animal husbandry. We also incorporate skills such as timber framing, using a crosscut saw, canning, etc. These skills are rapidly falling into disuse in our modern culture, but we see them as crucial to our future survival, and we intend to help keep them alive. The surest way to protect earth based lifeways, or "earthskills", is to practice them, and pass them along. We can reclaim our ancestor's lost knowledge of living with the earth.
We now have approx 25 acres with rich soil, a year round spring fed stream, and lots of small clearings among forest groves. We held a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) last winter. It is was a good success and we generated maps and plans for our land design implementation. This Spring we are getting underway with our first year on this sacred piece of land and are undertaking lots of system development. On the agenda: renewable energy systems, a campground, a greenhouse, animal shelters and more. Stay tuned!
